Fall Introduction:

Or no more excuses, I am going to write things down in my trusty old webjournal

It is getting to be the time of year that is my favorite: Autumn, Fall, the Halloween Season.  When I was younger, I noticed that my hair changed with the seasons--blonde in the summer, reddish in the fall, dark brown in the winter, and finally in spring, plain old brown.  Fall is when I have finally settled into the school routine, and now I can say that is true, but in such a different way.  I am no longer just the student, but the teacher, and so I have a certain distance from this time of year.  However, now that I am living up here in DFW all alone, with the chilly weather allowing me to where cozy clothes, I can't help but get into the autumn spirit.  Yesterday I went grocery shopping and I bought two cheap scarecrows to use as decorations in the house.  And I also bought some candy to give out for Halloween.  Although this year it is on a weekday, I am living in a real house in a neighborhood with children, so I plan on being prepared.  Since college, this has probably been the longest I have every been by myself, and even in college this wasn't completely true, since I always had my boyfriend.  But I am living alone now, housesitting a three bedroom house, and cat-sitting an aging siamese.  On the work front, I am teaching two classes, both composition.  I really enjoy teaching, and although I am not sure I want to be a grad student right now, I am enjoying the teaching part of this experience more than I had anticipated.  My mother visited me this past weekend, and noticed that I seem to have much more energy.  I think I am so energized I could even dress up this year.  The English Department is going to have a Halloween Party, so I have to just decide I want to be.  My ideal costume would be to find an adult sized Madeline costume.  My hair is the perfect length to mimic her hair, as long as I made it red.  Otherwise I have my trusty old witch hat and Marla from Fight Club jacket--and then I could just look crazy.  Tonight I have class for my Rhetorical Invention course I am taking.  We are studying Kenneth Burke and Freud's idea of Slips of the Tongues.  Well now I am going to go do that: read all about tongue slipping.
