Melissa's
Journal Entry May 3
I am going to keep this journal entry simple, because I have
really good news. I went to UTA this
weekend to
interview for a graduate teaching assistantship. I met with 2
professors, various students, and had two interviews--one for the
program, and another for the assistantship (called a GTA). At the
end of Monday, I was told by the head of the GTAs that they were
offering me a position. To make it even better news, I was sent
email when I got back offering me a tuition fellowship. Yeah! So,
I accepted the offer yesterday--so starting this Fall, I will be
living in Arlington, teaching two frosh classes, and taking two
classes in the English Rhetoric program. And this is all after I
go to Europe this summer. Now I have a paper to do on Anne
Neville due Saturday. UTA
is right
outside of Dallas. I had dinner in downtown Dallas, and I really
liked it. It is much cleaner than Houston, but it still has a big
city feel. Hopefully I will enjoy it there, and be able to take
advantage of the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Yeah!
The background music is David Bowie's Night Flights, because I had an awful trip at night from Dallas to Houston this past weekend. I was on a commuter flight in a 30 seat propeller plane. We went throught the storm that ended up tearing up a lot of Houston with tornados. It felt like we were in a tornado. I ended up throwing up more than once and also got a bloody nose due to the altitude changes that were so quick. Next time I am definitely driving!
I wrote the first four pages of a play for my playwriting class at Rice, which you can see if you go to here.
