Welcome to my May 22nd Entry. In 4 days I will be on a plane to Paris with my sister, Lindy. I will be returning June 11, however, in the mean time there will be no online journal entries. However, I will be keeping a regular journal, and will be taking a lot of pictures. So, I will have a lot to share when I do get back. This weekend I watched three movies about the European experience. I also watched a few movies at the theatre this past week. The European videos I saw were Frantic, with Harrison Ford, in a French Fugative situation; The Single Girl, an interesting French/English subtitled movie that did not have any sex scenes; and European Vacation, which was a staple in my house growing up. I also saw Gladiator and Erin Brokovich, which I both liked. I saw previews of Dinosaurs, and I vetoed seeing that. And finally, I saw Center Stage. I love dance movies, and this movie had wonderful dancing. I was impressed that so many of the dancers were okay actors. They had a range and skill I have never seen in any other dance movie. However, when I went with my sister (who disliked it) there were 50 or so teens watching it, obviously for the purpose of making fun of it. The guffawed, whistled, and laughed at the parts I found touching. No matter, the dancing captivated me through out, so I could ignore the rude idiots.

Now, I would like to dwell on the X-Files finale. It was both shocking and predictable. The known part was Mulder's abduction--however, in a way it was very shocking to me. I didn't know if he was going to come back next season, however, the ending allowed for either possiblity. The less shocking part, even though it was meant to be, was Scully's announcement that she was pregnant. If she is not preg by Mulder, I will be very upset. Earlier in the episode they spooned and snuggled when Scully felt ill, so closeness is there. However, how this baby was concieved is the main question: in a long ago episode she was made barren, as she reminds the audience in the finale. Whatever the case, she wants Mulder to return, and anything less would have been a let down. So, next year we have a possible preg or miscarried Scully (her Catholic faith precludes an abortion). And we have an abducted Mulder, who is going to be found, but will only be on for half the episodes. Can we really imagine Scully running around solving X-Files pregnant, or even with a child later on? The likelihood is that it will be an alien baby, or one she can not sustain. But you have to ask yourself, why was this put in? To shock, to be a great cliff-hanger? Or is there an ultimate resolution they plan to deal with her pregnancy? Regardless, this will be their last season coming up, and so some kind of resolution must be attained--unless they decide to make a movie after the season ends.

I arrive in Paris on Sunday morning, and will have a free day to acclimate, and hang out. We begin our tour on Monday to various places outside of Paris. I have gotten money belts, ACDC converters, suitcases, comfortable clothes/shoes, everything I could need. And yet I am still nervous. Lindy and I have never travelled together without our parents, even though we have both gone places seperately with them. It will be a new bonding experience for us. So often when we hang out, I feel like we are just the kids. We have grown up a lot, but we still have a lot of patterns. Lindy is 20, five years younger than me, but she is now my peer. So this will be an interesting trip, for more than one reason.

Anyway I will write more when I get back.

Voyez-vous plus tard,

Melissa
