Melissa's March 26 Journal Entry

Welcome to journal entry March 26. Maricel arrived from L.A. early Saturday morning, and then we went to breakfast together. The picture above on the right is of Maricel in front of the Denny's we ate at. Next on the agenda was my Shakespeare class, where we stayed at until Maricel decided she was falling asleep from this speech:

How many thousand of my poorest subjects
Are at this hour asleep! O sleep, O gentle sleep,
Nature's soft nurse, how have I frighted thee,
That thou no more wilt weigh my eyelids down
And steep my senses in forgetfulness?

So, we left class around noon, came home and got ready, because we were going to FAME the musical! We both really enjoyed this production because we were both big fans of the movie and television show. Additionally, I got a Fame T-shirt, and an autographed poster of the cast, and Maricel got a production booklet. All day we kept humming and bopping around to "Fame, I'm gonna live forever!" My sister got the CD, so that was our listening music for the weekend. Below you can see the images from our jaunt to downtown Houston:

Maricel was very impressed by our skyline in the downtown and galleria areas. Afterwards, we met up with my parents to go to dinner at Christies, which is a seafood place. My family caught up with Maricel, who we have known since she and I were 12 years old living in Southern CA. Maricel now lives in L.A. and works at the LA Times. Anyway, after dinner we headed over to my friend's house, to visit Masha the wolf-dog. The picture on the left is of Maricel being kissed and loved by Masha, the huge wolf-dog. Afterwards we headed over to Diedrich's coffee where we hung out for an hour or so. Then we headed for home where we made a bee-line for my heated pool and jacuuzi. After our toes were wrinkled enough, we went in and relaxed. Maricel got addicted to Lindy's guitar, and played this one song she made up over and over again. I joined in with my own guitar, and we continued to hum this song the next day. Sunday, we decided to head over to the Galleria so she could get her hair washed and blown dried, and so she could get some souviners to bring back with her. On the left you can see her getting her hair finished by a very talkative guy at Visible Changes. I wasn't feeling very well, so I ended up going to the bathroom a lot. However, this meant that Maricel had time to hang outside and catch a few smokes. She was very surprised that places don't ban smoking like they do in LA. Overall, I had a great time visiting with Maricel, even though it was a whirlwind weekend tour. She fell in love with my house, so I think she will probably visit again eventually (hint, hint!) Both of us were both sleep deprived the whole weekend but lasted all the way until Sunday night when she flew off on the plane.

The other thing I did Sunday was watch the Oscars. I was really excited about it because I had filled out my own picks at http://moviegames.yahoo.com and I wanted to see if I won--alas, I was only about half right. I was right on everything I had seen, but wrong on everything else. The other thing we did on Sat. night (other than a midnight run to Jack & A Box) was watched my tape of the Matrix--at least we started to. And then Maricel fell asleep in the lazy boy she was sitting in, so we stopped it. Both I was very pleased to see that the Matrix won some Oscars. The visual effects were absolutely amazing! This was the first year I monitored the Oscars results online at Yahoo.com, but it was fun to do so. Additionally, I am playing in the Internet Stock Challenge at Yahoo which allows you to have 100,000 fantasy dollars to invest however you like, and Yahoo! is one of my stocks. So, I think that the new dependence on Yahoo! for up to date info will add to the value of my stocks!

Anyway, I am going to go back to sleep. Man, am I tired!

See ya,

Melissa
