welcome to journal entry february 7. In the
background, you can see a screen shot of my desktop on my
computer. Right now the wallpaper is of ER, but recent
wallpapers have included the matrix, groundhogs,
"2000 is for Miles" and other images I have
downloaded. Now my computer has melded into half Matrix,
and half ER in theme. The desktop pattern are tiny Ms.
today I did a tune-up on my computer, getting rid of
corrupted files, enhancing the memory, and defragmenting
the disk. Finally I removed this irritating error message
which occurs when I turn on my computer on. Hopefully I
have eliminated other errors (like my explorer program
self-destructing every once in awhile). Now I just need
to clean my room, and do my homework.
ok, the music you are currently listening to is the
theme from the Show. (Btw, my
sister reminded me that not everyone can listen to music
on their computer, so if that is you, forgive this
rambling). For those of you who don't
know, Mary came back for one night one ABC this evening
in a made for TV movie called Mary and Rhoda. My mother
and I watched it. She didn't like it, but I did. I think
it had to do with the way we approached it. She
remembered the youthful Mary, while I could appreciate it
for what it was now. The various reviews have echoed
this. People can't help comparing it to the old show,
rather than seeing it as a movie with some of the same
characters, with different themes. In searching for the
midi music for this show, I found a very good site called
Planet
Mary. It is very well-done, and very Mary obsessive.
I also learned that there literally is a webring for
every conceivable topic. (I lingered over the idea of a
lissaring, devoted all to me.:)
About my day: I actually got out of the house today,
after spending the weekend lazing around inside. And
guess what--it was a rainy day too. All weekend it was
nice outside, and then it poured the whole time I was
out. While I was driving, I saw a guy with a bag over his
head to keep himself dry. Other than the fact that this
is very unsafe, I couldn't believe that he was trying so
hard to keep his hair dry. Vanity in a plastic bag.
Another thing I noticed while driving: Ethernet cables
all over the city. I read that the city of
houston is laying cables all over in order to move into
the 21st century. This is making every other street be
messed up, with multi-colored cables laying on the sides
of the roads and on huge spools. Another thing I thought
about while out was triggered by my trip to KFC. In the
Marxist theory I had to read for my class last week, one
person said that there was no proletariat in our
culture--just the bougousie. Well, I have identified the
new proletariat: fast food workers. It is true toiling.
Assembly lines, alienation, isolation, and no pride in
their work available. They are step below Wal-Mart
workers. In fact, doesn't the Colonel look
like a plantation owner, with all his loyal slaves
working for him? I had a friend in high school who was
the valedictorian, yet he chose to work at Del Taco
before college in order to truly work hard. He eventually
became the manager (however, he went on to college and
majored in computer science).
The
other thing I did today was read the first half of Mists
of Avalon. I am reading this book for my King Arthur
class, and it all about the legend from the point of view
of the women of the time. I was going to do my paper on
Guinevere, however, someone else choose that. From
reading the Avalon book, I am leaning
towards Igraine. She is a very minor character in Malory,
however, she served an important role. Bradley makes a
compelling case for a more visible role of Igraine in the
King Arthur legend, so I am considering tackling this
issue. She is also the mother of Morgan Le Fay, so she
plays an important role in the eventual behavior of her
daughter. I think this relationship would also yield some
good results.
Last night I stayed up and watched this odd-ball movie
on the Late Late show. It was called Late for Dinner, and
it stars Peter Berg, formerly from Chicago Hope. Also
there are cameos by Doc from Third Watch (and Jeannie's
husband from ER) and Jeanne Garafolo, pre-Reality Bites
days. (It was filmed in 1991.) It was about two guys who
get frozen in the 1950s, and are thawed out in the 1990s.
Really this description doesn't tell you what this film
is really about, which is lost love. I almost cried at
the end. And it was funny, in a quirky kind of way.
Finally, the big news of the
day. My dog, Chewy decided to go through a window. She is
unharmed, however, she gave a big scare to the postman
who she was barking at when she broke through the glass.
Every day for five years she bangs against that window
when the postman comes, and finally I
guess it couldn't take it anymore. On the right you can
see the results of this doggy feat.
well, have a good night, morning, whatever,
