welcome to journal entry february 19.
above you can see me squinting in the sun on a walk with
my dog today. to see pictures of the whole experience,
see this page. btw. you know all the different
"dance" pages out there, well there is finally
an objectivism dance (on the right is a sample of a rand
figure dancing). You can see it here. In the background you can see the poster
for Camelot, and hear the theme song from the musical.
Today in my King Arthur class we watched the film
version. I was very affected but this movie for more than
one reason. In the first place, it is a very dark tale in
many ways, and it is jarring to see it in the context of
a musical. Vanessa Redgrave's performance as Guinivere
also added this this because she is such a serious and
elegant actor. Overall, this musical appears to be in two
seperate worlds: one is dramatic and tragic, full of
controversy and emotional wrenchings, while the other is
full of music, laughter and songs that rhyme ever so
cleverly. Additionally, the character of Lancelot was
just great. He reminded me so much of my ex-boyfriend
Kyle, in his innocent arrogance and obsessive desire to
be moral and just. Lancelot has a great song called "C'est
Moi" in which he explains that
everything wonderful and pure in life he is. "Where
in the world is there a man so extraordinaire? C'est
moi!" Which means "It's me" in French. It
is a wonder that it was made back in the 1950s.
Yesterday on cable I saw part of an
interesting film that followed Sting on one of his first
solo tours. The little I saw looked interesting and
presented him as a very likable fellow. When my dad owned
a club when I was younger, after a concert here in
Houston, "The Police" came there and partied
until all hours. In this film, you get to see Sting's
house, interviews with band members, and his interaction
with his family. He comes across as whimsical, thoughtful
and very attractive. Sometime I want to find that film
and watch it for myself all the way through.
Anyway, I am worn out from my
walk and having written three essays in three days. Next
week I have three finals, and two of them are are take
homes, so everything starts over again. However, today
when I was saying bye to my King Arthur professor he told
me that my Don Quixote professor had been bragging on me
and how well I have been doing in that class. That makes
me feel good, and also it is useful to remember when I
need professors to write things good for me later on.
Anyway, have a great weekend,
and I will write more later.
See ya,
Melissa
