"I am
conscious of the world as consisting of multiple
realities. As I move from one reality to another, I
experience the transition as a kind of shock."
--Peter Berger, The Social Construction of Reality
Welcome to journal entry february 15-16. Sorry I
haven't written sooner, but I have been bogged down with
my essay, and I didn't think it was prudent to put the
whole thing up as a journal entry. However, I am very
pleased with it, and am about to check it over for typos.
Okay, I did: you can see the final product here.
Btw, the music you are listening to is one of my
favorite songs, "Time After Time" by Cyndi
Lauper.
I wanted to mention that I am considering going to the
IHS summer seminar, if I can fit it into my schedule. It
is for one week, and it is paid for, and you get to study
libertarian thinkers. This would mean 3 weeks in Europe,
1 in Vancouver at the TOC seminar, and then 1 week at one
of the various IHS sites (maybe CA, or VA). Oh, and I
have been exchanging email with the
graduate advisor at University of Texas at Arlington
about their graduate program--sounds like it might be a
match. Today when I went to the bookstore to study, I
bought a tarot card set and instruction book. I am going
to play with it when I have more time next quarter. While
I looking for things on the internet for my essay, I came
across
dotcomguy. He is living inside his house for one year
dependent on the internet for survival. Of course, mr.
guy isn't too interesting. I think my own site is way
more spontaneous and engaging than his corporatized
endeavor. I read his journal entry and it was like
reading a bland newspaper column. His site is so
impersonal, it is almost like the anti-homepage. Ok,
enough complaining. I watched on TV funny movie called
It's Pat, yesterday. It is the Julia Sweeney
character from SNL, and it looked dumb, so I never saw
it. But it actually was very clever. But the person who
stole the show was Dave Foley. He played a mate to Pat,
and we didn't know his gender either.
However, he looked exactly like a woman. He wasn't
made-up, nor was he acting infeminate, so he was very
convincing. The movie was clever in avoiding the secret
of Pat's gender. But watching it, I couldn't help
noticing that Pat as a person was not very nice or smart.
That part made me sad. If Pat had just been slow, that
would have been one thing--be she was kinda mean. (I was
so in love with Dave Foley as Chris, so I didn't like it
when Pat treated Chris badly.)
Look at this comic below:

Isn't it so true? Just today I was saying
that George W. looks like the Mad Magazine guy, and then
I found this comic later in the same day. Anyway, I have
to go work on my essay due tomorrow. Wish me luck,
MELISSA
